Story a day: 1.21.16

Prompt: Write the story in reverse chronological order.


"I know," he said, but it didn't stop the tears from spilling over the red rim of his eyes.

"It was for the best," the woman said.

From behind the glass, he watched his best friend die, his chest slowing, hitching and then becoming eerily still.

He held the old dog close as he entered the vetrinarian's office, unsure if the quivering he felt was him or Sooty.

"We got you a puppy," his mother said, holding a wriggling gray animal with a big red bow taped to his collar.

It snowed on the day he met his best friend.
